What should you know about the breeder?

The breeder's identity, registration details where applicable, the pet's pedigree and veterinary records, and written purchase terms help you make an informed choice.

Before you decide

Knowing who raised your pet and how it has been cared for helps you make an informed choice.

Ask us for information about the chosen pet, its breeder and the documents available before reserving it.

A breeder's registration and pedigree documents should be checked separately from the pet's current health and the purchase terms.

What is a breed?

A breed standard describes the breed’s characteristic traits. We clarify your chosen pet’s ancestry through its documents and discuss its individual health and temperament separately.

A breed is formed as a result of years of selective work by breeders, who select the best representatives to obtain offspring with desired qualities. Each breed has its own standard - a detailed description of the ideal representative.

Recognition of a breed occurs through international organizations (FIFe, WCF, FCI, etc.), which maintain registries of purebred animals and control compliance with standards.

Choosing a breeder

Before choosing a pet, discuss the breeder's background, available documents and care arrangements with our team.

Breeder registration

Ask for the breeder's or kennel's name, registration details and the organisation that issued the pedigree documents, where applicable.

Pedigree documents

Check which pedigree or litter registration documents are available for your chosen pet and how to verify them with the issuing organisation.

Veterinary records

Review the available veterinary records, vaccination entries and health documents for the pet.

Breeding experience

Ask about the breeder's experience, previous litters and references from owners.

Breeder and kennel registration

Breeder or kennel registration can help you identify who raised the pet and which organisation maintains its pedigree records.

What to check:

Check the registered name, registration number and issuing organisation. Registration alone does not replace a health assessment or a purchase agreement.

Documents and details to ask for:

  • Breeder or kennel registration details, where applicable
  • Pedigree documents for breeding animals
  • The pet's veterinary records and certificates
  • Seller details and the agreed purchase terms

Health information to review

Discuss the available health records for your chosen pet before agreeing on payment and handover.

Vaccinations

Ask to see the vaccination entries in the veterinary passport and discuss the next steps with a veterinarian.

Parasite treatment

Check the records of treatment for internal and external parasites and the planned schedule for further care.

Genetic tests

Ask which genetic tests are relevant to the breed and whether results are available for the pet or its parents.

Veterinary examinations

Clarify when the pet was last examined by a veterinarian and which health documents will accompany it.

Purchase agreement

Before paying, agree on the written purchase terms for your chosen pet, including the seller, price, documents and handover arrangements.

What to agree in writing:

  • The pet's details: breed, sex, date of birth and available pedigree documents
  • The seller's and buyer's details
  • The agreed price, payment terms and handover arrangements
  • The agreed terms covering health, origin, cancellation and refunds

Questions to clarify before payment:

  • A list of the documents you will receive
  • Information about the pet's health at handover
  • The procedure to follow if a health concern arises after handover
  • How to contact the team for further advice
